The Clock is Ticking: Support ends for Windows XP SP3 and Office 2003

As Microsoft announced, by April 8, 2014, support will end for Windows XP SP3 and Office 2003. Information collected from enterprises that have undergone a migration shows that the average enterprise deployment can take 18 to 32 months. If your organization has not yet started the migration to the newest versions of Windows or Office, the reality is, you are already running late.

So, what are the risks of running Windows XP SP3 and Office 2003 in your organization after Microsoft support ends?

  • Security and Compliance – Unsupported business environments are vulnerable to security risks. This may result in an officially recognized control failure by an internal or external audit body, leading to suspension of certifications, and/or public notification of the organization’s inability to maintain its systems and customer information.
  • Lack of ISV (Independent Software Vendor) & Hardware Manufacturers support – It’s common for many ISVs to be unable to support new versions of applications on Windows XP. Running unsupported and outdated software may stifle access to new, innovative, hardware. Most PC manufacturers will stop supporting Windows XP on their newest models.
